MOOOV filmfest to screen Iran’s ‘Careless Crime’

The MOOOV Int’l Film Festival in Belgium is to screen Iranian movie ‘Careless Crime’.

Iranian movie ‘Careless Crime’ has been scheduled to vie at the MOOOV International Film Festival in Belgium.

Directed by Shahram Mokri, the 135-minute movie was internationally premiered at the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Going back to forty years ago, the movie’s story starts during the uprising to overthrow the Shah’s regime in Iran.

Then, protestors set fire to movie theaters as a way of showing opposition to Western culture and burned down many cinemas.

In one tragic case, a theater was set on fire with four hundred people inside and most of them were burned alive.

Now in contemporary Iran, after forty years, four individuals also decide to burn down a movie theater.

Produced by Negar Eskanadarfar and Karnameh Institute of Arts and Culture, the flick is starring Babak Karimi, Razieh Mansouri, and Abolfazl Kahani.

Set to vie at the Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea, ‘Careless Crime’ has already gone on screen at several global events and won some awards, including the Best Original Screenplay award at the Venice International Film Festival in Italy, the best screenplay award at the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, and the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

Dreamlab Films, the France-based international distributor under Iranian film expert Nasrin Mirshab, has acquired the international distribution rights to ‘Careless Crime’.

The MOOOV goes all over the world looking for films and directors that combine quality and relevant content.

The MOOOV is an initiator of all sorts of temporary and permanent activities built around the programming and screening of high-quality films from the five continents.

Its mission is to make high-quality films from all over the world available and debatable to everyone in Flanders, using a recognizable label that is accessible on different platforms and at different locations.

The 2021 edition of the MOOOV is slated for April 20-May 3.
